Clipping Plane provides a variety of options for generating clipping planes on the model. All existing clipping planes are assigned to their Zone Sections and can be found in the Model Tree. The clipping plane affects not only 3D model but also the annotations: an annotation is visible only if its feature (or pair of features) is visible.

The Clipping Plane button is located in Tools ribbon in the General Commands Group.

Selecting it will open new panel with different modes for creating clipping planes.
| OK - Creates a clipping plane. The clipping plane will appear in the Model Tree in one of its Zone Sections. Cancel - Closes the form. Modes section - Shows the different modes for creating the clipping plane. XY, XZ, YZ, and Work Plane - Create a cutting plane corresponding to the given plane. Three Vertices, Vertex and Edge, Vertex and Perpendicular to Edge, Two Edges, Tangent to Surface, Angled to Edge, Planar Curve and Annotation Plane - user can select model entities in order to define a plane, which is then used as a cutting plane. For Angled to Edge, an angle is also separately specified in the settings. Entities - Contains number of sets depending on the creation mode. These sets show IDs of model objects chosen for plane creation. |
| Settings - Contains a set of parameters depending on the creation mode: Show Plane - Shows a semi-transparent planar surface in the 3D view that represents the clipping plane. Enable Cross Section - Create geometric entities that represent the cross section of the model at the cutting plane. Invert Normal - Flips the normal of the clipping plane. This has the effect of reversing the display of the model elements (shown and hidden) by the original clipping plane. Principal Axes (Only available for XY, XZ, YZ) - Select 'Yes' to use the XY, XZ, or YZ planes according to the principal axes of inertia, rather than the world coordinate system. Separate View - Show the Cross Section in a separate view. Angle (Only available for Angled to Edge) - Angle between the clipping plane and the selected edge. |
Note: A mode can be disabled (visualized in gray) in case if there are no necessary object types in the model. The corresponding object type sets will also be disabled in the entities tree.
Move/Rotate the Clipping Plane Manually
The clipping plane can be moved/rotated manually with the mouse. To do this:
Select the clipping plane in a Zone Section of the Model Tree and choose the Move/Rotate command from the context menu.

This will bring the axis triad to the 3D view, which can be dragged with the mouse in order to translate and rotate the clipping plane. Note: grayed axes show disabled for translation directions, grayed arcs show disabled for rotation directions.

Attach/Detach Zone Section
An existing zone section can be attached to a saved view. To do it select a saved view in the Model Tree and choose the Attach Zone Section command from the context menu and select a zone section from the drop-down list. To detach a zone section from a view use the Detach Zone Section command from the context menu.
