From a design perspective

If you want your annotated model to define complete, clear, and unambiguous requirements so people can use the model in automated processes, such as computer-aided analysis, manufacturing, and inspection, without having to guess or fill-in-the-blanks of missing information, the tolerancing applied to the model must be based on ASME GD&T or ISO GPS.

From the perspective of someone using a model-based product definition data set (e.g. a manufacturing or inspection perspective)

If you want specifications to define complete, clear, and unambiguous requirements on an annotated model so you can use the model in automated processes such as computer-aided analysis, manufacturing, and inspection, without having to guess or fill-in-the-blanks of missing information, the tolerancing applied to the model must be based on ASME GD&T or ISO GPS.

Problems of Using +/- in MBD

Model-based product definition data sets based on plus and minus dimensioning and tolerancing define incomplete, unclear, and ambiguous tolerancing requirements. To say this a different way, annotated models that do not use ASME GD&T or ISO GPS are incomplete, unclear, and ambiguous. While a 3D model can accurately define a perfect nominal part or assembly, plus and minus dimensioning and tolerancing does not and cannot define complete, clear, and ambiguous requirements for actual imperfect manufactured parts and assemblies. As stated in the section “What's Wrong with Using +/-?”, plus and minus dimensioning and tolerancing requires everyone to guess which requirements the tolerances impose upon the actual product, and it forces inspectors to guess how to verify if the manufactured part or assembly meets the assumed requirements.
